So here is a good update on what I've been up to lately and on the accompllishment of Russell dogs here and elsewhere:

I travelled to Arkansas in late October to run dogs at the Irish Setter Club of America's National Field Trial and to ride and watch the braces of the NFT.  Russell dogs Jack, Meg, Sister and John competed.  John, Sister and Meg ran in the Derby Classic and all did a good job for Pro Trena Cardwell.  Trena elected to pick Meg up despite a decent run as sh...

AT LONG LAST!!!!!  Mary is in heat and on her way to Jack who is currently at Chukarhill Kennel in Eastern Washington State.  After the breeding, which should happen in the next couple of weeks, Mary will return home to me to have her litter, and Jack will go on the field trial circuit, including the National Field Trial in Arkansas.  I am sooo excited.  After spending most of the summer in hospital, this will be a welcome positive!!!  I can't wait for this litter, th...

The Jack Mary litter

Mary had her hips OFÁ Radiographed last week in Ohio by Jean Webb who is helping me to look after Mary right now.  The hips looked great by all accounts, so now we just wait until the results come back.  There is a wait list forming for this litter both because of Mary and Jack themselves, but also because of the incredibly success of Cassie Allen's litter by Jack's brother Joey out of Mary's Dam Reba.   Those dogs from Cassie's litter are two now and they are doing i...

Kamloops BC trial and me

Posted by Susan Russell on May 24, 2011 at 11:20 AM Comments comments (0)

This coming weekend the BCABPC will host the Canadian Chukar championships near Kamloops BC.  This will be John's first trial and Meg's last as a pup.  Jack and Hope will run in the broke stakes despite having had absolutely no work lately.  I've been feeling poorly and a short hospitalization has thrown a monkey wrench in my tune-up schedule.  Well, that and the bobcat that ate all but 3 of my pigeons!    Other Russell dogs running at this trial will b...

For those of you asking, I have put up a new page for Lohmann's Paddy O'Leary which can be accessed via the "Our Males" page.  They are from last fall.  Paddy continues to do well living with Rhys in Saskatchewan, and I do plan on seeing Paddy and getting his OFA done soon.  I hope to have a litter sired by Paddy in the coming year.  Thanks for your continued interest in this nice young German Import dog.

ISCA National Walking Championship and Hunt Test

Goose's owner Karen and I blasted down to Colorado last week to support the ISCA's bid to make the Walking Championship an AKC reality.  The trial at Rocky Mountain Roosters was a lot of fun with the possible exception of the high winds hte first day.  It was fun to see so many folks that I had not seen for ages, and fun to see a bunch of dogs I had not had a chance to see for ages as well.  Meg was the star from our camp with her second place in the puppy stake.  Jack and...

Meg on a roll, Jack places!

I went with friend Karen and Goose to the Irish Setter Club of Seattle field trial.  Meg ran in the all pointing breed puppy stake and placed second!  That makes two for two for little Meg!  Her sisters also ran in their first stake with owners Chris and Caryn and showed signs of brilliance.  Jack ran well and handled a bird properly and ended up with his first sernior stake placement by going fourth in the Open Gun dog Stake.  Our friend Ed Meyer won again with ...

Weekly Report

We ran pups and broke dogs yesterday again and I am so pleased with them all.  Meg is the BIG STAR right now, she has relly figured out what this game is about.  She ran well and independantly and handled very well.  The baby pups are getting more independant and less reliant on each other when down,   Jack and Hope ran broke and had an honouring lesson as well.  Hope's range is coming back, and Jack's pattern is as well.  It is interesting to see them adjus...

Jack and Hope's senior stake debut

Posted by Susan Russell on March 6, 2011 at 6:05 PM Comments comments (0)

Jack and Hope made their senior stake debut.   Jack handled a stop to flush and had a pretty decent race.  He took too many steps on another  STF on a couple of birds, though, and was picked up.  Not too bad a beginning, but not good enough.  Hope had a slow start, then was getting into her stride when she came upon her bracemate on point.  She initially backed the bracemate, then moved in front and stole point, the birs went up and it was too much for the b...
