Birdy's progression

Posted by Susan Russell on March 21, 2010 at 11:09 AM

Birdy's temperature is down again this morning and we've set up her whelping box and a bunch of blankets in a quiet area in the dining room.  We still have a ways to go, but definitely progressing in the right direction.    She has nested a few times in the whelping box - or anywhere quiet and dark that she can get to.  This is the time when one has to make sure that a dog cannot get into a tight area; I have heard lots of stories of people having to dig their dogs out from under the house.  Dogs are smart, they want to go away from activity and have their pups somewhere quiet and protected - they retain so much wild instinct despite our attempts to completely domesticate them.

I've got my friend's daughter Kate on standby for photography...
