Russell Irish Setters

"Griffin X Birdy" - We at Russell Irish Setters are extremely excited about the potential of this litter.   We are really pleased that Chris Greene and Marsha Henkel were able to provide us with frozen semen for the breeding to Griffin, and also that Birdy was able to come back to us from Cassie Allen in Ohio for this litter! 

Griffin was a dog that I had looked at using a few years ago as a sire and I am fortunate that Chris Greene had the foresight to collect and freeze some breedings from him. 

I am really pleased to be able to use him on Birdy for he was not only a lovely dog to look at, but he had a  wonderful temperament and was the joy of Chris' life just like a great Irish should be.  He had good field ability and helped introduce Chris to the fun that field events can be.   A group placing dog himself, he was also part of an extremely successful family of show champions who were  very active and successful in the obedience ring, agility, tracking, and the field.  Chris also enjoyed tracking with Griffin. 

Griffin represents an opportunity to further improve breed type while maintaining temperament and ability.    Look at his dark correct coat and beautiful neck and topline. 

Birdy was bred by Russell Irish Setters and is owned by Cassie Allen of Mythodical Irish Setters.  We are delighted to be leasing her back for this litter. 

Birdy is AKC show and field pointed, and has multiple placements in AKC senior Stakes.  She is an athletic and moderate female, with a dark excellent quality coat and flawless movement. 

Birdy is very willing and wants to do things right making her easy to live with and relatively easy to get ready for senior stakes. 

We are confident that this combination with Griffin will give us not only pups that combine Griffin's wonderful nature and Birdy's abilities but also both parents' correct breed type and sound conformation.

 Birdy is shown below on point the weekend Cassie brought her out to us for this litter.  She was 4 weeks pregnant here and still raring to go!  The show photo shows her winning at a show despite being in her summer pyjamas.  Her excellent structure and sound movement will take her far.
